Maja Michaelsdotter was born 1985 in Lund and has a Masters degree from HDK- Valand, University of Gothenburg. She currently lives in Malmö, Sweden. She is a textile artist specialiced in tufting, who works within the sculptural field. "In my work I bring up themes from ordinary life, but by playing with scale and setting the objects present a contrasting layer of meaning and an often comical or absurd aspect of the world. I seek to portray a striking fascination with everything living, our biological bodies and organs of flesh and blood as well as underlying themes of the mind. My pieces often relate to topics viewed as heavy or problematic, which in my work is shown with an honesty that ultimately celebrates the force of life."
